Greetings of peace and heartfelt congratulations from the Global Network of Women
Peacebuilders!
The Philippines now joins 17 other countries who have exhibited commitment to implement UN
Security Council Resolution 1325 by developing and implementing national action plans. It is
only the fifth Global South country –and the first in Asia –that has put in place a systematic
translation of UNSCR 1325 and its supporting resolution 1820 into executable, measurable and
accountable actions.
I was fortunate to have been a part of the Philippine national action plan (NAP) process that
highlighted the key ingredients of a good national action plan: political will, commitment and
strong cross-sectoral collaboration. I and everyone at the Global Network of Women
Peacebuilders hope to see the same ingredients used in translating the words contained in the
NAP into action.
As we approach the 10th anniversary of UNSCR 1325 in October, let us the celebrate this
immense contribution towards greater accountability to international laws that promote women’s
full and equal participation in decision-making, conflict prevention and protection of women and
girls’ rights. The Global Network of Women Peacebuilders congratulates Sulong CARHRIHL,
the Philippine Commission on Women, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process
and everyone who worked so hard on the Philippine National Action Plan. Special thanks to
Miriam College for hosting this momentous occasion.
We commit to working with you in the implementation of the NAP in ways that will lead to
positive changes in communities directly affected by violent conflicts. We wish us all the
realization of our deepest longings for peace and justice.
