PeaceWomen Across the Globe’s (PWAG) overall purpose is to increase the visibility of women peacebuilders and support their efforts for peace and justice. The organization grew from the initiative to nominate 1000 women for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005. Our mission is to foster connections among women peacebuilders, strengthen their efforts and make their peace work visible by engaging in cooperative projects, building mutual expertise and exchanging information. We advocate for the integration of women in all activities that contribute to increasing human security.
The focus of our activities is to
• transfer and exchange the wealth of women’s knowledge and skills through documentation;
• provide platforms for women to network and share experiences at the local, regional and international levels;
• engage with and advance the work of existing networks and projects;
• inspire new activities that increase the meaningful participation of women in peacebuilding processes, in the transformation of conflicts and in the struggle for ecological security;
• initiate solidarity campaigns within the international network;
• increase the visibility of PeaceWomen Across the Globe through our exhibition which portraits 1000 PeaceWomen, our book «1000 PeaceWomen Across the Globe» and documentary films.
Today we are a global network of 1000 PeaceWomen, dedicated volunteers and regional coordinators. Our program «Visibility & Connectivity» focuses on our continuous work such as showing our exhibition, launching campaigns and connecting women peacebuilders. And our new program «Redefining Peace – Women Lead the Way» includes collaborative projects in multiple regions of the world, which focus on the participation of women in conflict transformation, and on livelihoods and ecological security. Our organization and network are continuously growing and expanding, however our main objective remains the same: to increase the visibility of women peacebuilders and support their work.
