MOFAN-V

MOTHERS FOR ACTIVE NON-VIOLENCE (MOFAN-V), GHANA

Mothers for Active Non-Violence (MOFAN-V) is a Ghanaian women’s peacebuilding and conflict transformation organization working to help raise awareness on the need for women’s equal and active participation in peace and security processes; and to support women build their capacities to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to participate equally and actively in these processes at the community, national and international levels.

MOFAN-V was founded in December 2005 by Becky Adda Dontoh, a communications professional and a Peace and Gender advocate.

The objectives of MOFAN-V are:

  1. To advocate for women’s equal and active participation in peace, security and conflict transformation processes at the community, national and international levels;
  2. To train women and children with nonviolence, peace building and conflict transformation skills;
  3. To establish peace flower clubs in schools to support peace education of children;
  4. To join and support women’s networks working to ensure women’s active participation in peace and security processes all over the world; and
  5. To raise funds to support MOFAN-V’s activities

MOFAN-V has four major Programmes/Activities:

  1. Capacity building: Conducting trainings in nonviolence, peace building and conflict transformation skills for women, the youth and children
  2. Advocacy / Public Education: Aimed at raising and increasing awareness on the need to involve women in all peace and security processes at all levels – community, national and international
  3. Peace Flower Clubs in schools to support peace education and help inculcate nonviolent and constructive conflict transformation ways
  4. MOFAN-V Peace Reserve: Encouraging women to sign-up as volunteers and to commit themselves to going into conflict zones to support other women and children cope and rebuild their lives during disasters and violent conflict
