Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN), Kosovo

Background/Goals:
The Kosovo Women’s Network (KWN), established in 2000, is a network of 68 women’s organizations of diverse ethnicities and geographic regions that advocates on behalf of Kosovar women. KWN’s mission is to support, protect and promote the rights and the interests of women and girls throughout Kosovo, regardless of their political beliefs, religion, age, level of education, sexual orientation and ability.

Current Projects:
Towards its long-term strategic goal for women to participate actively in politics and decision-making, KWN has worked extensively on monitoring and advocating for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 in Kosovo, South-east Europe and internationally, and created reports in both 2007 and 2009. Both reports, including recommendations were submitted to the United Nations. KWN believes the monitoring process raised awareness among officials regarding their responsibilities. KWN plans to follow up on the reports, carrying out continued monitoring and advocacy for furthering the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Kosovo.
