Kitgum Women’s Peace Initiative (KIWEPI), Uganda
Kitgum Women Peace Initiative is a women-oriented organization established in 2000 by the women of Kitgum to foster a peaceful and informed society that is engaged in sustainable development. KIWEPI promotes peace building and conflict resolution; economic empowerment and building livelihoods; and the elimination of sexual and gender based violence. It advocates for the implementation of UN Resolutions 1325,1820 and the Goma Declaration; promotes reconciliation and recovery processes among the war-affected Acholi community; and works to ensure women’s involvement in peace buiding conflict resolution.
